Firmware update (OTA)

MS2-net can update its own firmware over-the-air (OTA), that is over WiFi, without connecting it to a PC. This is especially useful when the receiver is installed in an awkward spot (electrical cabinet, permanent base, sealed enclosure).

How it works

1. MS2-net, connected to the Internet over WiFi, checks the available version against the current one.
2. If a newer version is available, it downloads the new firmware and installs it.
3. When finished, the receiver restarts on the new version.

Note

The comparison is by version number (`major.minor.patch`): an update is offered **only** to versions newer than the installed one, with an anti-downgrade guard.

Update over cable (alternative)

As an alternative to OTA, the firmware can be loaded over USB by connecting MS2-net to a PC (CP2102N port). This is the method used in the lab or when no network is available.

Good practices

Tip

\- Make sure the receiver has a **stable WiFi connection** during the update. - Do not remove power while flashing. - After the restart, check the new version on the **display** or in the configuration portal.

Important

MS2-net includes a **watchdog** that automatically restarts the system if the firmware hangs for a long time, so you do not have to physically intervene on the installed device. During updates the watchdog is managed so that it does not interfere with flashing.
